Description

This module sets out to equip students with the knowledge, understanding and skills to be involved in the corporate world’s investment and financing decisions. It enables the students to understand the nuances inherent within corporate finance, and to take account of them in generating and/or applying corporate finance theories. The module first explores the time value of money and the relationship between risk and return as key concepts. It then goes further to consider a range of important areas of corporate finance. These include; portfolio theory (including the capital asset pricing model - CAPM), the cost of capital and the impact on capital structure, capital markets and the imperfections, valuation of financial assets, capital budgeting, and risk management. The module provides a rigorous presentation of the theoretical underpinnings of corporate finance combined with applications drawn from practical exercises and case studies.
