Description

Gender and Global Health explores and explains theoretical, empirical and applied approaches to and perspectives on gender and global health. It adopts a critical approach to gender and aims to train you to understand how gender identities determine our health and wellbeing on a local and global level. The module will illustrate and discuss current global debates and issues in gender and health, and provide you with a strong theoretical basis from which to conduct gender transformational research and interventions on global health.

By taking this module, you will:

· Acquire the knowledge to understand the relationships between gender structures, identities and health and what impact these may have on the design and delivery of health interventions.

· Learn how to articulate and apply a range of gender theories and to critically discuss commonly used terms and paradigms.

· Develop the ability to de-naturalize gender structures, identities and problems, and explain more subtle forms of gender inequality.

· Understand and articulate a gender transformative approach to gender and health.

· The module is open to students on the MSc/PG Dip Global Health and Development, other ÐÂÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹ûMSc/PG Dip students, Taster course students and Short course students.
