Description

The module aims to develop critical understanding of the perceived role of education and related educational frameworks to transform society and promote equality and social justice. Sessions aim to provide students with the knowledge and skills to critically explore a range of different perspectives in intercultural education in the contexts of social, political and economic changes in an increasingly intercultural, diverse yet connected world. These perspectives include critical pedagogy and the role of educators as agents of change, intercultural ethics, internationalisation and globalisation, multicultural theory and the role of education in diverse societies, epistemologies of the South and decolonising the curriculum.

Students will reflect critically on their own educational experiences and related practices and apply key concepts and models to relevant areas of education research, policy, and practice. Particular attention is paid to the role of structural inequalities and unequal power relations in knowledge systems through a decolonial lens. Through discussion and reflection, students will engage in an ongoing dialogue that challenges traditional paradigms, fostering an environment where diverse perspectives are not only acknowledged but actively integrated into educational discourse.
