Description

Vector-borne diseases are becoming an increasing global health challenge due to the effects of climate change, unplanned urbanization and international travel. This module will introduce you to key aspects of the field of vector-borne diseases and medical entomology from an interdisciplinary perspective. It will cover the fundaments of ecology and the biology of vector-borne diseases, its epidemiology and transmission dynamics, as well as key concepts of vector control. The module will also discuss the latest research to develop innovative tools to fight vector-borne diseases. It will also critically review current global efforts to tackle these diseases and provide you with a basis to design vector control and surveillance programmes.
