Press cutting: Follow funding advice or lose stem-cell lead, scientists warn

The UK risks losing its competitive edge in stem-cell research if the government fails swiftly to make good on increased funding recommendations and introduce a new regulatory regime, leading researchers warned.

"We are at risk of abdicating our role," he said. There was a danger of repeating the experience of monoclonal antibodies, which were first discovered in Britain in the 1970s but taken up commercially in the US, leaving the UK behind in what had become a $20bn-a-year industry. 鈥�
